Data sources and licenses

The directory currently lists 4,319 stops: gas stations, service areas, SAU bases (the concessionárias’ roadside assistance bases) and rest areas. The data was generated on September 29, 2026.

Official open data

• ANTT (National Land Transportation Agency): the user assistance bases (SAU) on federal toll highways, with km and sentido (direction of travel), and the kilometer markers of the main pista (roadway).
• ARTESP (São Paulo State Transportation Agency): SAU bases, rest areas and other assets on São Paulo’s state toll highways, whose positions we also use to calibrate the km.
• DNIT (National Department of Transport Infrastructure): the National Road System (Sistema Nacional de Viação, SNV), with the start and end km of each section of the federal highways, used to estimate the km when there is no other source.
• ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels): the register of fuel retailers, used to confirm gas stations and fill in their fuel brand.

We combine this data with OpenStreetMap, match the records to places, and rewrite and reformat the information. The agencies that publish the data do not endorse this site, and any errors introduced in this process are ours. The attributions required by each source are below.

How we calculate the km

We use, in this order: the km in the official record itself, ANTT’s kilometer markers, the positions of ARTESP’s assets, OpenStreetMap’s kilometer posts and, last, DNIT’s SNV. A km calculated from the SNV or from OpenStreetMap is marked as approximate. On federal highways, the count starts again in each state, so the km is always shown together with the state.

What we do not use

We do not use certification lists of stopping points. The site does not show which places are officially recognized as a Ponto de Parada e Descanso (an official stopping and rest point for professional drivers).

In accordance with the ODbL, the site’s complete database is available for download under the same license: paradas-na-estrada.geojson. It contains data from the official sources above; if you reuse the file, keep their attributions too.
